In-Plant Services: Health & Safety
Assistance
After an extensive interview process to help ABC understand what was
needed to create a safer facility, XYZ Holdings contracted CTI to
provide professional health and safety In-Plant Services at their ABC
facility. These services began with an in-depth review of their existing
program policies and procedures to ensure that all applicable
regulations were being considered and met. Programs reviewed by CTI
included Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Safety Shoe and
Safety Glasses policies (PPE), Respiratory Protection, Lock Out / Tag
Out, Electrical Safety, Hot Work, Confined Space and specific facility
work area policies. CTI also reviewed ABC’s recorded accident logs in
order to identify injuries and how they related to specific work areas
and work practices. CTI then modified the written safety procedures as
necessary so that the safety of personnel working with and in specific
areas of the facility could be improved.
CTI began conducting monthly
site inspection visits to identify and record any safety procedure
shortfalls, which ostensibly were probable OSHA violations. The probable
violations were discussed with the Safety Team, and specific ABC Co.
personnel were assigned to correct each issue. This process repeated
itself each month until less frequent site inspections were required,
with Quarterly assistance being the ultimate goal.
CTI also provided
employee training to facility personnel regarding the specific health
and safety policies. The classes were prepared using actual facility
process information to keep the classes on-point.
With the assistance
and expert knowledge provided by CTI, ABC Co. is now in substantial
compliance and has been recognized through an industry forum as a
positive example regarding their health and safety program. What can any
facility learn from this? That it is never too late for any industrial
and commercial facility to achieve compliance with OSHA regulations and
improve the health and safety attitude at their location.
A thorough and
tested in-plant Health and Safety program reduces the potential for OSHA
violations. Facilities that have complete, written programs, provide
adequate training, and promote a safe work environment simply have fewer
citations from OSHA. Promoting and practicing written facility programs
improve personnel awareness and will lead to a reduction in work place
injuries and potential OSHA violations. Such programs encourage
communication among management and staff as well. CTI can provide
In-Plant Health and Safety assistance to any facilities that wish to
review, update, and improve their employee safety and reduce worker
compensation liabilities.
