COMPLIANCE REMINDERS
Ohio EPA Storm Water General Permit Renewal
Ohio’s Industrial Storm Water General Permit expires on July 31, 2005.
Ohio EPA plans to notify industrial storm water dischargers who have
coverage under the General Permit how to renew their NPDES permit. This
notice is not anticipated until August 2005. Existing permitted
industrial dischargers will be allowed to continue discharging storm
water after July 31. Once OEPA contacts individual facilities, they will
have 90 days to respond if they want to re-apply for coverage under the
General Permit or if they want to change to an Individual Permit.
Facilities holding permits with sampling requirements should have
sampling completed prior to July 31st as certification may be required
as part of the permit renewal process.
Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Reporting
Facilities that use or produce toxic chemicals above specific thresholds
are required to report annually under the Emergency Planning and
Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA -Title III of the Superfund Amendment
and Reauthorization Act, Section 313). TRI reports are used to inform
the public and government officials of on-site releases, off-site
transfers, and other waste management activities at each facility.
Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) reports must be sent to both the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Ohio Environmental
Protection Agency (OEPA). The report for any calendar year must be
submitted on or before July 1 of the following year. TRI reports for
reporting year 2004 must be postmarked on or before Friday, July 1,
2005.
